In his 38 age, he specialized in portraying typical thing such as flowers in nature and tried to reflect Chinese painting’s magnificent spirit with long soft brush (goat-hair brush) on his art works. He accumulated a great deal of experience in vigorous strokes. Using the soft brush to create majestic and powerful elegant painting was his secret of success in the large freehand painting (Chinese: 大写意).

At his 50s, he focused on the studying and creating his own personalized art work. His source of creation came from people’s everyday life such as flowers, birds and prawns, etc. After taking a naturalistic observation outside of world, he captured the soul of creation and fused the feeling into his art works. His art works came from real life but the soul of the works was above on the understanding of life. “Creating by heart, giving up various limitations, painting freely and naturally, combining the things in nature and the soul of people in an unified entity successfully” all of these characteristics formed an unique style in his large freehand painting works. His unique art style could be described as below:

The soft brush sketches the skeleton firmly
The thin paper gives the painting an exhilarative and comfortable effect
The vivid stroke just stops in perfect point
The magnificent spirit touches people’s hearts

Let’s view his famous art work “Corn”. The contract of light black and dark black ink and comparison of wet and dry grant the painting different layers and three-dimensional feelings. The vigorous strokes sketch the stems of corns which stand against the wind firmly. The leaves of corn are fluttered in the breeze. The corn plants are bowed down with the weight of its fruit. The whole painting shows readers an exciting picture of golden harvest season.
