Biography
 
Qi Mengzhang (Chinese: 齐梦章 1937-2011), was a famous prominent ink wash (brush painting. Chinese:  国画) painter. Qi was born in Leting of province of Hebei, China. Later, the Qi family moved to Qiqihar of province of Heilongjian where Qi began his ink wash painting study from famous Chinese Painting Artist, Mr. Wang Shaowei (Chinese:王绍维 1897-1961), then from Mr. Cui Zifan (Chinese: 崔子范, 1915-2011, the president of  Beijing Fine Art Academy). In 1985, Qi moved to Tokyo, Japan.  

Qi was a visiting professor of Art at the Changchun Normal Universtiy and a honorary member of Jilin Historical Archive, China. Qi also served as the chairman of Touhougakai and the art advisor of All Japan Alliance of Chinese Int Painting Artists.

The art works of Qi demonstrated a unique style in the large freehand brushwork style painting (Chinese: 大写意). Qi’s painting style is characterized by subject taken from people’s everyday life such as flowers and prawns, etc. A kind of realism with sometimes exaggerated elements. His deep profound painting skill granted his work as “Magnificent spirit” said by Mr. Toshiki Kaifu, the former 76th and 77th Prime Minister of Japna.

Qi’s work had been exibited over 30 times in United States, Japan, China, and Taiwan, etc. In his paintings, over 20 paintings won awards from China and Japan and have been collected by research institutes, governments and official leaders from China and Japan. His painting “The Pine and Longevity” had been collected by Mr. Tomiichi Murayama, the former 81st Prime Minister of Japna. 
“We hope the friendship between China and Japan likes the pine tree and can last forever”, Mr. Tomiichi Murayama and Qi said it each other. In 1995, Qi was granted the Gold Medal Award of Overseas Dissemination of Oriental culture (Chinese: 弘扬东方文化艺术金奖) by former Vice-Chairman of the Chinese Committee of the National People’s Congress(NPC), Mr. Wu Jieping (Chinese: 吴阶平 1917-2011).
